Italian by Blood began as a personal search for answers in 2010. Like many Italian Americans, we grew up knowing only fragments of our family's history. Our great-grandparents left Sicily in 1904, and over the years, remarriage and adoption blurred family history, erasing stories we never heard.
A trip to Italy changed everything. One question, “Do I qualify for Italian citizenship?”, sparked a journey to reconnect the missing pieces. Through genealogy courses, Italian record research, and countless hours navigating immigration, naturalization, church, and census documents, we uncovered our family’s story and ultimately confirmed our eligibility for Italian citizenship by descent, or jure sanguinis, the Right of Blood.
The experience was transformative. It restored lost history, renewed our connection to Italy, and paved the way for dual citizenship for the next generation.
